- A licensed Non-Vessel Operating Common Carrier (NVOCC) or freight forwarder
- A licensed attorney or law firm
- A Certified Public Accountant (CPA), tax advisor, or financial advisor

The content on Import Cost Calc does not create any professional relationship between you and Import Cost Calc. Use of our calculators or reading our content does not constitute a client relationship, an advisory relationship, or any fiduciary obligation on our part.
The calculators, formulas, and explanations on this Site are designed to help importers understand and estimate import costs. They are not a substitute for working with licensed professionals who have knowledge of your specific products, HTS classifications, origin country, destination country, trade agreements, and current regulatory environment.
3. Calculator Accuracy Disclaimer
Import Cost Calc's calculators are designed to produce reasonable estimates based on published rates, standard industry formulas, and verified government sources. However, you should be aware of the following limitations:
3.1 Inputs Are Only as Accurate as What You Enter
Our calculators produce outputs based on the values you enter. If the values you enter are incorrect, incomplete, or based on incorrect assumptions (such as the wrong HTS code, incorrect country of origin, or incorrect Incoterms), the output will be correspondingly inaccurate. Always verify your inputs with your supplier and freight forwarder.
3.2 Estimates Are Not Binding
Calculator results are non-binding estimates for planning and budgeting purposes only. They do not represent:
- An official customs duty assessment or liquidation
- A binding freight quote from any carrier or freight forwarder
- A binding landed cost calculation you can use for customs entry
- A classification ruling from CBP or any customs authority
- A guaranteed profit margin or return on investment
3.3 Real Costs Will Vary
Your actual import costs will vary from calculator estimates due to many factors, including:
- Your specific HTS classification and applicable duty rate
- Country-specific trade agreements (USMCA, GSP, etc.) that may reduce or eliminate duty
- Carrier surcharges, peak season rates, and fuel surcharges not captured in benchmark estimates
- Port handling charges, destination charges, and last-mile delivery costs specific to your situation
- Actual customs examination fees, informal entry fees, or ISF filing fees
- Currency exchange rate movements between order and payment dates
- Anti-dumping and countervailing duty (AD/CVD) orders applicable to specific products
- First Sale valuation and other valuation methods that may affect dutiable value
4. Duty Rate Disclaimer
Import duty rates published on Import Cost Calc are sourced from official government publications including the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTSUS), published by the US International Trade Commission (USITC), and equivalent publications for the UK, EU, Australia, and Canada. However:
- Rates change frequently. Tariff schedules are updated multiple times per year. A rate that was accurate when we last updated our content may have changed since then. Always verify the current rate for your specific HTS code at hts.usitc.gov or the relevant authority in your jurisdiction.
- HTS classification determines your rate. The duty rate shown in our calculators is a general rate based on common HTS classifications for the product category described. Your specific product may be classified under a different HTS code with a higher or lower duty rate. Misclassification can result in underpayment of duties, which can lead to CBP penalties.
- Column 1 General rates apply only in the absence of other factors. Your goods may be subject to Column 2 rates (if from a non-NTR country), preferential rates under free trade agreements, or additional duties under Section 232 or Section 301 actions.
- State and local taxes are not included. Our calculators do not include state sales tax, use tax, or any local import-related taxes that may apply in your jurisdiction.
5. Freight Cost Estimate Disclaimer
Freight cost estimates provided by Import Cost Calc's shipping calculators are based on general industry benchmark rates and are intended to give importers a rough planning figure. These estimates:
- Are not quotes from any specific shipping line, freight forwarder, or carrier
- Do not account for peak season surcharges, General Rate Increases (GRI), emergency surcharges, or carrier-specific pricing
- Are based on standard commercial cargo and do not account for hazardous materials (DG cargo), oversized cargo, or temperature-controlled shipments
- Do not include port surcharges, terminal handling charges (THC), origin/destination charges, or Bunker Adjustment Factors (BAF) that may add 30–100% to base ocean freight rates
- May not reflect current market conditions — freight rates fluctuate significantly based on capacity, demand, and global logistics disruptions
- For air freight: do not account for airline-specific fuel surcharges, security fees, or carrier minimum charges
Always obtain actual freight quotes from licensed freight forwarders or NVOCCs before committing to a shipping plan. A range of quotes from 2–3 forwarders is recommended for any shipment.
6. Section 301 Tariff Disclaimer
Section 301 tariffs on Chinese-origin goods are subject to ongoing regulatory action by the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR). The tariff rates, product exclusions, and applicability of Section 301 duties are subject to change without notice through:
- Presidential proclamations and executive orders
- USTR Federal Register notices of exclusion extensions or terminations
- Negotiated trade agreements or tariff phase-down schedules
- Court rulings affecting the legality or application of specific tariff actions
- New USTR Section 301 investigations or modifications to existing lists
The Section 301 rates shown in Import Cost Calc calculators reflect our most recent update but may not reflect the current applicable rate for your specific HTS code and product. Before placing any order that will be subject to Section 301 tariffs, verify the current rate at ustr.gov and consult a licensed customs broker who can assess your specific HTS classification.
Import Cost Calc accepts no liability for any duty underpayment, overpayment, penalty, or CBP enforcement action arising from reliance on Section 301 rates shown on our Site.
7. AQL & Quality Control Disclaimer
Import Cost Calc's AQL (Acceptance Quality Limit) sampling calculators are based on internationally recognized standards including ISO 2859-1 (Sampling procedures for inspection by attributes) and MIL-STD-1916. However:
- AQL sampling is a statistical method that reduces — but does not eliminate — the risk of accepting defective product. Even a passing inspection does not guarantee that all units in the lot are free of defects.
- The appropriate AQL level, inspection level, and acceptance criteria depend on your product type, regulatory requirements, and risk tolerance — factors that our calculator cannot evaluate on your behalf.
- AQL sampling results are not a substitute for process control, factory audits, or regulatory compliance testing required for products sold in regulated markets (US, EU, UK, Canada, Australia).
- For regulated products (children's toys, electrical goods, food contact materials, medical devices, etc.), AQL inspection must be supplemented with mandatory laboratory testing by accredited labs. Our calculators do not account for these requirements.
- Quality inspection services are provided by third-party inspection companies; Import Cost Calc is not an inspection provider and does not endorse any specific inspection company.
8. Amazon FBA & eCommerce Disclaimer
Import Cost Calc's Amazon FBA and eCommerce import calculators are based on publicly available fee schedules published by Amazon and other eCommerce platforms. These calculators:
- Use fee structures that are current as of our last update but may not reflect the most recent fee changes by Amazon or other platforms
- Are based on standard product categories and size tiers; your actual fees may differ if your product falls into a different category or size tier
- Do not include variable closing fees, high-volume listing fees, aged inventory surcharges, or other seller account-specific fees
- Do not account for returns processing fees, removal fees, or disposal fees
- Do not guarantee profitability; actual sales velocity, competition, advertising costs, and market conditions will determine your actual ROI
- Are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or produced in partnership with Amazon, eBay, Shopify, or any other eCommerce platform
Always verify current Amazon fee schedules at sellercentral.amazon.com before making sourcing decisions. FBA fees and category restrictions change frequently.
9. Currency & Exchange Rate Disclaimer
Currency conversions and exchange rate calculations on Import Cost Calc use benchmark exchange rates for illustrative purposes. These rates:
- Are not live or real-time exchange rates
- Do not represent rates offered by any bank, money transfer service, or foreign exchange provider
- Do not include bank fees, wire transfer charges, or spread costs charged by financial institutions
- May differ significantly from the exchange rate applicable on the date of your actual payment
- Are not suitable for financial reporting, accounting, or tax purposes
For actual foreign currency transactions, use rates provided by your bank or a licensed foreign exchange provider. Exchange rate risk is a significant factor in import profitability; consider hedging strategies for large orders.
10. Compliance & Regulatory Disclaimer
Import Cost Calc's compliance cost calculators provide estimates for regulatory testing, certification, and compliance costs. These estimates:
- Are based on typical fee ranges for accredited testing laboratories and certification bodies; actual fees vary significantly by lab, product complexity, and market
- Do not constitute a compliance assessment, gap analysis, or regulatory opinion for your specific product
- Do not guarantee that a product meeting estimated compliance costs will pass regulatory requirements or be admitted entry by Customs
- Are not a substitute for working with accredited testing laboratories, notified bodies, or regulatory consultants
- Do not cover all applicable regulations — your product may be subject to additional federal, state, or local regulations not captured in our calculators
Regulatory requirements for importing products into the US, EU, UK, Australia, and Canada are complex and product-specific. Non-compliance can result in import refusals, product seizures, recalls, and significant financial penalties. Always consult with regulatory specialists familiar with your specific product category before importing.

13. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IMPORT COST CALC AND ITS OWNERS, OPERATORS, EMPLOYEES, CONTRACTORS, AND AGENTS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THIS SITE, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

THIS LIMITATION OF LIABILITY APPLIES REGARDLESS OF THE LEGAL THEORY UNDER WHICH DAMAGES ARE SOUGHT (CONTRACT, TORT, NEGLIGENCE, STRICT LIABILITY, OR OTHERWISE), EVEN IF IMPORT COST CALC HAS BEEN ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. IN NO EVENT WILL IMPORT COST CALC'S TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS EXCEED $100 USD.
14. Seek Professional Advice
Before making any import decision — including but not limited to placing supplier orders, booking freight, filing customs entries, paying duties, committing to minimum order quantities, or entering regulated markets — we strongly recommend that you:
- Consult a licensed US Customs Broker (CHB) for HTS classification, duty rate determination, admissibility assessment, and customs entry preparation. Find a licensed broker at the National Customs Brokers & Forwarders Association of America (NCBFAA) at ncbfaa.org.
- Work with a licensed freight forwarder or NVOCC for accurate freight quotes, Incoterms advice, cargo insurance, and logistics coordination.
- Consult a trade attorney for matters involving antidumping/countervailing duty orders, CBP enforcement, intellectual property, or trade agreement eligibility.
- Engage accredited testing laboratories for any product subject to US, EU, UK, or other mandatory safety or regulatory testing requirements.
- Verify current rates and regulations directly with official government sources including CBP (cbp.gov), USITC (usitc.gov), USTR (ustr.gov), and the relevant customs authority in your country.
The cost of professional advice is almost always far less than the cost of an import error — whether that error is a CBP penalty, a product recall, a delayed shipment, or an unprofitable landed cost that wasn't properly calculated before placing an order.
